History
The Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau (FT-UNRI) is a faculty within the University of Riau with a long history of developing higher education in the field of engineering. The foundation of the Faculty of Engineering began in 1981 with the establishment of the Non-Degree Faculty of Technology (FNGT), which housed four study programs: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Extension, and Agricultural Socioeconomics.
In 1990, FNGT was disbanded, and each study program was transferred to its parent faculty. The Department of Agriculture established its own faculty, while the Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering study programs remained as Diploma III programs under the direct supervision of the Rector of the University of Riau.
The initial step in the formal establishment of the Faculty of Engineering was marked by the issuance of Rector's Decree No. 29/PT.22/H.Q/1994, which opened student admissions for the Bachelor's programs in Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The next significant milestone occurred in 1996, when the Directorate General of Higher Education, through Decree No. 657/D2/96, established the opening of two new study programs: Diploma 3 (D3) in Mechanical Engineering and Diploma 3 (D3) in Electrical Engineering, which began accepting students in the 1998/1999 academic year.
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Riau was officially established on December 29, 2000, based on Decree No. 236/Q/2000 of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia. Since then, the Faculty of Engineering (FT-UNRI) has continued to develop into a leading higher education institution in the field of engineering, both in education, research, and community service.
Throughout its history, the Faculty of Engineering (FT-UNRI) has received support for infrastructure and academic development through various programs, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through the Engineering Education Development Project (EEDP). This assistance includes the construction of lecture halls and laboratories, procurement of books and equipment, and the training of lecturers and educational staff.
To date, the Faculty of Engineering (FT-UNRI) houses five departments with study programs covering the Diploma, Bachelor's, Master's, and Professional Engineering levels. The faculty is committed to producing graduates who are competent, highly competitive, and ready to answer the challenges of the world of work in an era of ever-developing industry and technology.
